Our Music Studies focus on the professionalization of musicians and performing artists. The chance opportunity these young jazzers get through their participation in Jazz Middelheim and of being coached by an international artist contributes to their becoming creative and independent musicians. The students can perform in optimal conditions and expand their network. This year, three students work together with the Danish bassist Jasper Hoiby.
Our teacher Bart Moeyaert has been appointed artistic director of the programme to be presented by Flanders and the Netherlands as guests of honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2016. Moeyaert is an internationally renowned author with an extensive network in many foreign countries and translations in twenty-one languages. Nineteen of Moeyaert’s books have been published in German translation. Moeyaert writes prose and poetry for readers of all ages and in that sense builds bridges between different literary genres and authors.
Our marimba student Irena Manolova graduated this year at the KONSuni in Vienna as part of an Erasmus exchange. On June 25, she performed a concert to obtain her master diploma in Percussion.
At the end of every academic year the students of the third year Bachelor Dance, assisted by their colleagues, give their final performance. This year it was a combined soiree with a choreographic material of top choreographers Emanuel Gat and Wim Vandekeybus. The production was co-produced by our neighbors of International Arts campus deSingel. The rehearsal process was led by Hervé Chaussard (Emanuel Gat Dance) and Iñaki Azpillaga (Ultima Vez). Opening night was on Wednesday, June 25th at the Theatre Studio deSingel.
