Language requirements

The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (RCA) is an internationally oriented institution and warmly welcomes students from all around the world. With about 40% international students, the RCA staff has put in place numerous actions to accommodate music and dance students who do not speak Dutch. 

Formal language requirements

(Drama and Teacher Training Programme)
The RCA language requirements are in accordance with Flemish legislation and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:

  • Bachelor and Master of Arts in Drama: Dutch proficiency at level C1
  • Teacher Training programme in Drama: Dutch proficiency at level C1
  • Teacher Training programmes in Dance and Music: Dutch proficiency at level B2

There are no formal language requirement for the Bachelor and Master of Arts in Music and the Bachelor of Arts in Dance.

Advisory language level

(Music and Dance)
Bachelor and Master of Arts in Music / Bachelor of Arts in Dance: students are advised a B2 Dutch or English proficiency level for an effective day-to-day communication and high quality written assignments.

Language courses

The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp does not organise language courses. Students are free to take courses at a language institute of their own choice.
